Test Kit for S.A. 8600 & 8590 with (11 Buttons)

Installation Instructions

This Test Kit is designed to be used in the 11 button SA 8600 & 8590. The installation kit consists of the test kit circuit board assembly and an 8 pin low profile IC socket. The following is a step by step procedure for installing the test kit in the 8600, which is identical to the 8590.

These and all instructions offered by TC USA are intended as educational Hobby reading material only and should Never under any circumstance be carried out by anyone.

1.) First remove the cover of the Box by unscrewing the 4 star head screws. This can be accomplished using a small flat blade screw driver or the proper Security Torx bit.

2.) Find the single 8 pin IC chip labeled "IC 1" in figure 1, located on the main logic board to the

right of the large 40 pin IC, See Figure 1 Below.

3.) Install the 8 pin IC Socket on top of "IC 1" by placing the socket over the top of the IC, with the bottom of the socket flush with the top of the IC and aligning the pins of the socket with those of the IC as shown in figure 2 below. The socket pins should straddle the IC pins as shown in figure 2. The socket should be positioned over the top of the IC so that pin 1 of IC-1 is aligned with pin 1 of the IC socket. (see Figure below to locate pin 1 of IC 1 Chip)

4.) Solder pins 1, 4, 5 and 8 of "IC1" to pins 1, 4, 5, and 8 of the 8 pin IC socket, basically all four corners to less confuse things.  The most important pin, is Pin #1 since it is the only ones making contact with the test kit, however it is recommended that at least 2 of the pins on the opposite side of the IC socket (such as pins 4 and 8) be soldered to provide additional mechanical support for the socket so that is doesn't move or come off. It's easier to solder all 4 corners and it gives better support.

5.) You will notice a row of 7 female socket pins along the left bottom side of the test kit and two male pins on the right edge. The female socket pins mate with the 11 pin connector on the main logic board, located immediately to the left of the 40 pin IC (see figure 1, for 11 pin connector location). the male pins on the test kit plug into pins 1 and 4 of the 8 pin IC socket that you previously soldered on in step 4.

6.) Install the test kit as shown in figure 4 below by first aligning the 7 female socket pins on the test kit with the 11pin connector on the main logic board of the Box. Make sure that each of the Female pins plugs into the corresponding male mating pin on the 11 pin connector. The plastic connector shroud around the 11 pin connector will act as a guide to assist in the positioning of the socket pins into the female pins on the chip. Once these pins are lined up, orient the test kit so that the two male pins on the opposite edge are aligned with the mating IC socket pins 1 and 4.

7.) Once the pins are all lined up, press down on the test kit to seat the connectors. Be sure that the 7 female socket pins are fully seated over their mating pins. When properly seated the bottom of the test kit will touch the top of the white plastic surrounding the 11 pin connector on the left edge. It is normal for the left edge of the test kit to set lower on the 11 pin connector side.

8.) Replace the cover and screws removed in step 1.
