Installation Instructions
The 8580 Test Kit, Version 4 (Part#8580B4) is designed to be used in the 6 button SA 8580. The installation kit consists of the 8580B4 test kit circuit board assembly and a 14 pin low profile IC socket. The following is a step by step procedure for installing the test kit in the 8580-6.
These and all instructions offered are intended as educational Hobby reading material only and should Never under any circumstance be carried out by anyone.
1.) First remove the cover of the 8580 by unscrewing the 4 star head screws. This can be accomplished using a small flat blade screw driver or the proper Security Torx bit.
2.) Find the two 8 pin IC's labeled IC-1 and IC-2 in figure 1, located on the 8580 main logic board to the right of the large 52 pin IC, See Figure 1 Below.

3.) Install the 14 pin IC Socket on top of IC chips #1 and #2, by placing the socket over the top of both IC's, with the bottom of the socket flush with the top of the IC 's and aligning the pins of the socket with those of the IC's as shown in figure 2 below. The socket pins should straddle the IC pins as shown in the figure. The socket should be positioned over the top of IC's 1 & 2 so that pin 1 of IC-1 is aligned with pin 1 of the IC socket and pin 1 of IC-2 lines up with pin 6 of the socket. (see Figure below to locate pin 1of IC Chip #1 and pin 1of IC Chip #2.)

4.) Solder pins 1, 2, 3 & 4 of IC #1Chip to pins 1, 2, 3, & 4 of the 14 pin IC socket and then solder pins 1 & 2 of IC-2 Chip to pins 6 & 7 of the 14 pin IC Socket. Pins 1, 2, 3, & 4 of IC-1 and Pin 1 of IC-2 are the most important to solder since these 5 pins will be the only ones making contact with the test kit, however it is recommended that at least 2 of the pins on the opposite side of the IC socket (such as pins 8 and 14) be soldered to provide additional mechanical support for the socket.
5.) You will notice a row of 6 female socket pins along the left underside of the test kit and 5 male pins on the right underside. The female socket pins mate with the 13 pin connector on the 8580 main logic board, located immediately to the right of the 52 pin IC (see figure 1, for connector location). The male pins on the test kit plug into the 14 pin IC Socket that you previously soldered on in step 4.

6.) Install the 8580B4 test kit as shown in figure 4 below by first aligning the 7 female socket pins on the test kit with the 13 pin connector on the main logic board of the 8580. Make sure that each IC socket pin lines up with its mating pin. The plastic connector shroud on the 13 pin connector will act as a guide to assist in the positioning of the socket pins into the female pins on the chip. Once these pins are lined up, orient the test kit so that the five male pins on the opposite edge are aligned with the mating IC socket pins 1, 2, 3, & 4 (IC-1) and Pin 6 of IC-2.

7.) Once the pins are all lined up, press down on the 8580B4 test kit to seat the connectors. Be sure that the 7 female socket pins are fully seated over their mating pins. When properly seated the bottom of the test kit will touch the top of the white plastic surrounding the 13 pin connector on the left edge. It is normal for the left edge of the 8580B4 test kit to be lower on the 13 pin connector side.
8.) Replace the cover and screws removed in step 1.
