Please See Bottom Of Page For reference Images

  1. Unscrew the 4 (or 5 for the 8580) security screws from the bottom of the box with A SA Security Tool .

  2. After removing the cover from the box find two 8-pin chips (all models except 8590-11 & 8600, they have only one) or the 1 8-pin chip on the 8590-11 & 8600 inside the box. (These chips are normally located behind the channel up button.)

  3. Please check to make sure the 8 pin chips are working. Sometimes these Chips may need to be replaced. If chips are ok Please Proceed.

  4. It is recommended that you solder a socket on the top of the 8 pin chip (s) so the Chip can just plug in (to do this you will need either an 8 pin socket 8600/8590-11b or a 18 pin socket for all other models.  line up the socket to look like the pictures at the bottom of this page then solder each leg of the socket to each leg of the chip.

  5. Place the Test Aid over the 8-pin chip (s) (or insert in to socket you installed) so that pin 1 of the test module is lined up with pin 1 of the 8-pin chip nearest the rear of the box. (Note: pin #1 on a chip will always have a dot next to it.) If there is only 1 8-pin chip in the box then install the test module as though the 8-pin chip is the chip in the rear of the box. The Test Aid will over hang towards the front of the box and 10 pins of our quick-board will not be making contact with anything. NOTE: An 8-pin chip will have 4 pins on each side.

  6. Place the Test Aid on top of the 8-pin chip (s) and gently press down while moving the Test Aid from side to side until the pins are resting over the pins of the 8-pin chip (s) as shown. It should fit tight. Make sure that all the pins are lined up as shown. Choose the drawing from below that applies to your box and connect the 2 Test Aid wires as shown. Note: Soldering may be required

  7. If the model number of the box is 8580 with 6 buttons remove the jumper block on the Test Aid. If the model number is 8590 with 10 buttons, or model 8570 with the number "291299" and on the 40 pin chip in the box also remove the jumper block.

Please Note That The Chip Must Be Put In the Board With The Notch On The Chip Pointing Toward The Wires

DO NOT PLACE OUR TEST AID IN BETWEEN THE LEGS OF THE 8-PIN CHIP (S)!!!
THIS COULD RESULT IN DAMAGE!!!

OUR TEST AID SHOULD SIT DIRECTLY ON THE OUTSIDE LEGS OF THE 8-PIN CHIP (S) AS SHOWN!!

DO NOT!! Use A 14 Pin Socket like Below Use An 18 Pin Socket!!

The above is the wrong way to do it. The 14 pin socket is used on another application!!

Solder Each Leg Of The Socket To Each Pin Of The IC
